The sophomore effort by Lady A is titled “Need You Now.”  With this album they have drifted towards adding more pop to their country.  With their harmonies they have created their own unique sound.  This album would work well in a crossover to top 40 stations.  Lady A is just continuing with the trend of country artists crossing over to appeal to more then just the country genre.  It is just what the evolution of what country music has come to.  I would like to hear more old school in country, but I do realize that music is a business and people need to make a living.  I do enjoy how they add concert strings to some of their songs, especially “Our Kind of Love.”  I enjoyed the catchy lyrics, harmonies and instrumentals with this album.  It is refreshing to listen to.

If you are someone who likes Taylor Swift or Gloriana, then this is a must for your collection.

Tracks I recommend “Need You Now,” “Our Kind of Love,” “American Honey,” and “Stars Tonight”

The latest from the versatile Patty Griffin is titled “Downtown Church.”  Griffin dives more into the gospel music that she tinkered with in her previous album, “Children Running Through.”  The one thing I have enjoyed about her music is that she always tries something new on each new project.  I was a little weary with this album, because I am not the biggest fan of gospel.  But, because it was a project by Griffin I decided to give it a go.  It is refreshing to hear an album with an old school sound.  The sounds of raw recordings in a random spot.  The music is mainly gospel with a mix of traditional country and bluegrass folk music.  The sound is reminiscent of music in the 30s to the early 60s.  After the addition of electronics some of music lost that bit of roughness to it.  I would recommend everybody get this because of the different people it can effect.  I doesn’t matter who you are it works.  But, if are not the type of person who likes gospel music I would at least recommend listening to the track “Little Fire,” which includes Emmylou Harris.  This album was worth the almost three year wait.

Well I’m back after a little bit of a medical hiatus.  I will start this year with Never Shout Never’s Debut Album “What is Love?”  Many sites have marked this as pop music, but I would say it is leaning more towards alternative acoustic and indie music.  I first heard an EP of earlier music a few years ago.  For anybody who has heard previous songs will hear that this is a little different.  But, it is still along the same lines of previous work.  Commercially this album will probably not be played on your top 40 station, but will be a good mesh with indie music lovers.  It has a sound of more being recorded in a smaller setting which sounds a little rougher.  If you are someone who likes to go see someone singing with a guitar this will work for you.

My suggested tracks would be “The Past”, “What is Love?”, and “Can’t Stand It.”

Most people may know the band The Spill Canvas for their 2007 song “All Over You.”  Their latest EP is titled “Abnormalities” which includes only three songs.  And they are three catchy songs that are a great buy for anybody.  Some of the songs are a little reminiscent of other alt bands, such as Fall Out Boy.  If you have alway loved their previous work then you will not be disappointed.

Sade and her band are back after a long hiatus with a new single titled “Soldier of Love.”  It is a very instrumental driven song with the repeating of the title of the song.  This is what is typical for Sade and has made them very successful.  This is a good song that will probably not be played on commercial radio, but would do good in some type of film.  I love the instrumentals of this song portraying the title.  Which includes military percussion and soulful 20s style trumpets.  If you loved the previous work this is for you, but if you prefer commercial radio than you maybe disappointed.

Well the title says it all.  If you are one of those people looking for a sign to get organized, than today is your day.  It doesn’t have to be your desk, but it is a start.  Being able to search for things and knowing where they are can put you at ease.  And especially if your a person like me, who puts the tv remote in the fridge and the milk in the cabinet,  than a little organization will work.  So, for all those short attention spanned people let’s go out and make things simpler.

I still laugh every time someone starts an argument over something stupid.  Especially when both sides have the same problems.  It just sad how people seem to use the internet as a tool for their cowardice.  What happened to sitting down and solving problems face to face.  From my educational experiences I have learned that if someone can’t look you in the eye that is them telling you that they are weak and you are stronger than them.  The eyes are the gateway to the soul.  It shows that we are listening and shows our emotions.  It is just horrible to see how humanity has lowered themselves to not solving problems in person and how you have to involve another party.  Whether it be someone you tattle to or tell someone else something to spread rumors, etc.

Even when people do try that cowardice online they usually they think they are more aggressive because they don’t have to face the other people.  It is sad how much people use the internet to stalk people.

I just have to say one thing.  Why don’t you get a constructive hobby.  Learn something new in your life.  Make something with your hands or that takes a little more brain power to do.  Come on people I think that if we could just work things out face to face or find something more constructive to do we would be better society.  When anger rises, think of the consequences.  It is better to plan ahead.  To know what is right and not to do it is the worst cowardice.  Just deal with it now rather than later.  I am not the biggest religious person, but I do remember on thing from Sunday school.  It is an excerpt from Matthew 7:12 “do to others what you would have them do to you”

Now think people.

Here is a saying for you, “Different flowers look good to different people.”  Okay now think about that for a little bit.  It is kind of like the saying that “only a face a mother could love.”  To me it is say that you are an individual and so is everybody else out there.  We all have our different likes and dislikes.  Let’s take that saying and adjust it to something that I don’t like, which would be coconut.  To me it looks(and tastes) nasty, but to someone else it is delicious.  It is the same with people.  Someone may like the features of someone and another person may not.  So think before you make decisions out there.  We are all different and the world would really suck if we all liked the same things.  And it would also be boring if we had the same personalities and thought the same about things and ideas.

Here is a saying that applies to the battles that we struggle with in life.  It shows that even if you are struggling mentally the wounds still appear physically.  They are dangerous signs of struggle.

“The defects of the mind are like the wounds of the body. Whatever care we take to heal them the scars ever remain, and there is always danger of their reopening.”

One of my favorite sayings to come out of music lyrics is “the more you see the less you know.”  We all strive to go out in the world and see everything we can.  And I will agree increasing your knowledge and experiences is a good thing, but when it come to somethings you realize somethings.  When you find something you realize that you didn’t know as much as you did before.  Therefore, you really do know less that you did before.

Here are three of my favorite songs incorporating this saying

U2 – City of Blinding Lights

Red Hot Chili Peppers – Snow (Hey Oh)

Michael Franti & Spearhead – Say Hey (I Love You)

We’ve all heard the saying “sometimes your a square peg in a round hole.”  Well I have a little bit to add to that when it comes to a close group of friends.  I like to think of it kind of like wheels on a car.  We all know that round circular wheels work much better and run much smoother.  Sometimes if one wheel is a little square you just need to find your circular wheel to fit.  That square will will become a circle along the way for someone else’s vehicle it just takes time.

So next time remember you may be a square peg in a round hole in one spot, but in another the perfect fit of a round peg in a round hole.  Or in the case of this saying a square peg in a square hole.
